Egg pet 64 (C64)
A downloadable game
A virtual pet in your pocket… well, on your Commodore 64.
Remember those egg-shaped keychain pets from the 90s? EGG PET 64 brings the feeling back to the C64. On screen is a pink egg-shaped handheld with a grey dot-matrix LCD. Your pet lives on that little screen, drawn in chunky black pixels just like the real thing.
Hatch an egg, raise your pet from baby to child to adult, and keep it happy for as long as you can. Neglect it, and it won't be around for long…
CHOOSE YOUR PET - 10 animals to raise, and each one plays differently:
- Blob: the easy-going all-rounder, perfect for your first egg.
- Dog: gets sad quickly, but loves games more than anything.
- Cat: always hungry, but doesn't mind a bit of dirt.
- Duck: very messy, but very playful.
- Capybara: the most relaxed creature you'll ever meet.
- Horse: lively - loves games (extra happiness for winning a game)
- Rabbit: always nibbling - messy
- Pig: eats a lot - dirt is OK
- Sheep: calm and gentle
- Fish: eats little - hates dirt
- ???: a surprise egg. You won't know what's inside until it hatches!
Every animal has its own favourite snack: eg a bone for the dog, a fish for the cat etc.
FEATURES
- Watch your pet hatch from an egg and grow from baby to child to adult.
- Feed it a meal or a snack, play with it, clean up after it, give it medicine, turn the light off when it sleeps, and scold it when it's only faking.
- It gets hungry, bored, dirty, sleepy and sick. When it needs you, the attention icon blinks and the handheld beeps.
- Your pet may pretend to need you just to get attention. Scold it when it's faking to raise its discipline, but scold it when it's innocent and it gets sad.
- Play 4 mini games with your pet:
- LEFT OR RIGHT: which way will your pet turn?
- SNACK SNAP: your pet's own snack falls on the left or right. Press A or C
when it is level with the mouth to snap it. Leave the poop alone!
Catch 10 snacks to win; 3 misses (or bitten poops) and it is over.
The snacks fall faster as you go. - HIDE AND SEEK: the pet peeks over the middle bush, ducks down and the
bushes swap places. Pick its bush with A, B or C (left, middle, right).
3 rounds, each one longer and faster; find it 2 times to win. - COPY ME: the pet dances (look left, jump, look right) and you copy the
dance with A, B and C. 4 rounds of 3, 4, 5 and 6 moves, a bit faster each
round. One wrong move ends the game.
- Winning mini games makes your pet happier (horses and dogs love games even more) and every game burns a little weight.
- Check its status screens for age, weight, hunger, happiness and discipline.
- Score points for every second your pet stays alive and for taking good care of it.
- Beat a top score and enter your name in the top-5 Hall of Fame, which also shows the animal each player raised.
- Calm title music using all three SID voices, with a fat filtered bass and punchy drums, plus sound effects for everything your pet does.
- A two-page "How to play" screen, available from the title screen.
- Custom characters and sprites, with drifting clouds and buttons that press down.
- Written in 100% 6502 assembly.
CONTROLS Keyboard or joystick in port 2:
- A / joystick left: select the next icon
- B / fire: confirm
- C / joystick right: back / cancel
- Q: quit to the title screen (the score is lost)
- I / joystick up (on the title screen): how to play

- HIDE AND SEEK: the pet peeks over the middle bush, ducks down and the bushes swap places. Pick its bush with A, B or C (left, middle, right). 3 rounds, each one longer and faster; find it 2 times to win.

Nice game!
Thank you very much Saber!
Thanks to your video I've noticed that on latest version of vice emulator the sound remains faintly audible in the background which was not present on older vice and theC64. I'm working on fix. Thank you again.
1.01 update released. Now sound works correctly also on newer vice64 versions.
